Dr. Carolyn J. Benson, Principal

Greetings:

I have been with DeKalb County School District for many years.  I have worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal in both the elementary and middle schools, respectively.  This is my twelfth year at Rainbow Elementary as principal and I enjoy the time I spend with the students, faculty and staff, and key stakeholders.  I love children and believe they all can learn and that every opportunity can be turned into a teachable moment and positive learning experience.

In previous years, DeKalb County School District printed on the bottom of its letterhead the phrase, "The school cannot live apart from the community.''  I am a firm believer in that statement.  Here at Rainbow, we welcome our parents into the building.  We encourage parental involvement.  We ask that you come visit us and witness how active and engaged our children are in learning.  Just let us know you are here by signing in at the front office and then be prepared for a wonderful experience working with our children.

Mrs. Sunday DouglasAcademic Coach

It is an honor to serve as Academic Coach here at Rainbow Elementary School.  I have served as an educator in DeKalb County School District for many years.  Previously, I have served in the following capacities as a teacher for 3rd and 5th grades, as well as an EIP Math and Reading Teacher. I look forward to an awesome year of collaborating with all stakeholders to support the mission and vision of Rainbow Elementary School and DeKalb County School District.

 Mrs. Angelia GarnettCounselor

Hi, my name is Mrs. Angelia Garnett.  I was born and raised in Gainesville Georgia where I attended Gainesville City Schools.   I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Middle Grades Education (4-8) and a Master of Arts degree in School Counseling (P-12) from Clark Atlanta University.  I also received my Specialist degree in Educational Leadership (P-12) from Nova Southeastern University.
As a professional school counselor, my mission is to provide students with the tools they need to succeed in school and beyond during this crucial developmental time. Through leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, I will work to help students succeed academically, personally, and socially-emotionally. I am passionate about educating our children.  I became a counselor to ensure that students see and reach their fullest potential and to become productive citizens in all areas of their life.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and closest friends.   I also enjoy reading and listening to music.  I also enjoy cooking and baking.  I am super hopeful and excited for the school year and cannot wait to see what’s in store for us all!
